NHS Sisterhood
Ronald McDonald House Project

Ronald McDonald House Charities logoRecently, the NHS Sisterhood established a new project, collecting non-food items for the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. This will be an on-going project and it is Sisterhood’s hope that the entire congregation will support this very worthwhile cause.

On May 1st, Sisterhood President Roslyn Shapiro, accompanied by Hilary Green-Suddleson, NHS member and RMH project coordinator, and Jane Karlsberg, NHS member and photographer, delivered the first carload of donations to the RMH. We were met by Lisa Davis, activities coordinator, and greeted with great appreciation. Ms. Davis took us on a tour of the facility and gave us many facts and insights into the services offered at RMH. What we learned and saw was most impressive.

Here are just a few facts of interest:

  • Cincinnati’s RMH was opened in 1982 with 20 bedrooms. Two additional expansions have increased the House to 78 bedrooms, making it one of the largest of the 314 Houses around the world.

  • RMH provides a safe place to live for families who have come from great distances so their child can receive treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The House alleviates the financial burden and stress involved in having a critically ill child and provides a comfortable place to sleep, meals, activities, services and support while allowing families to be close to their hospitalized child.

  • In 2011, 1218 families were served at the House. They came to Cincinnati from 47 states and 22 countries.

  • RMH does not receive any city, state or federal funding. All monies come from private or corporate donations and the facility is operated by thousands of volunteers.

Sisterhood is grateful to all our NHS members and friends who have already generously donated items to this project. Every item is welcomed and appre-ciated by the staff and residents of RMH. To view the RMH Wishlist, please consult the NHS Bulletin, NHS website or the RMH website. Please remember that our collections are limited to non-food items.

Thank you so much for your on-going support.
