Sisterhood Paid-Up Membership Brunch
Sunday, October 6, 2013

11:00 am - 1:00 pm

NHS Sisterhood held its annual Paid-Up Membership Brunch on Sunday, October 6th in the Zorndorf Social Hall. Sisterhood President Bobbie Winkler welcomed everyone, and several Sisterhood officers talked about upcoming events and programs. The buffet lunch included two kinds of quiche, broccoli and spinach, cottage cheese, fruit salad, veggies and humus, rolls, and three kinds of cake for dessert. The event was free to paid-up Sisterhood members.

After Sarah Barnard led Birkat HaMazon (Grace after Meals), our featured guest speaker, Don Siekmann, led us on a trip down Memory Lane as he played excerpts of popular radio shows from the Golden Days of Radio. Don, a retired CPA and businessman, owns a collection of over 35,000 radio programs and has presented a class on the subject in the OLLI programs. He played opening segments and musical themes from shows like "Let's Pretend", "The Shadow", "The Lone Ranger", "The Green Hornet", as well as comedies like "Fibber McGee and Molly", "Jack Benny", and "George Burns and Gracie Allen", and gave background information about the actors and production practices of the era.

After the program, many beautiful prizes were awarded in a raffle, including jewelry, serving pieces, and a spectacular gold and beige scarf that was made by Sisterhood member Cecilia Euster.
