Sock Hop Celebrating 50 Years of Northern Hills Synagogue

Saturday, March 13, 2010

8:00 p.m.

Northern Hills Synagogue was swinging to the beat of the Four Hubcaps on Saturday evening, as congregants danced and socialized the night away. Part of the synagogue's 50th anniversary celebration, the theme was 1950's music and culture. Many of the women dressed in poodle skirts and white anklet socks, while a few of the men sported a "cigarette" pack rolled into their t-shirt sleeves. Don Hordes was the "Soda Jerk" who made custom root beer floats, and the tables were decorated with old LPs and Clark bars. There were several nifty prizes awarded to those who purchased raffle tickets, and the silent auction offered a variety of treasures, including paintings and artwork, theater and ball park tickets, jewelry and legal services.

The Four Hubcaps, a Cincinnati based band specializing in Rock 'n' Roll Music and Oldies from the '50s, '60s and early '70s, provided the entertainment. The M.C. interacted with the audience, and even enticed some synagogue members to sing. A few congregants even brought their '50's yearbooks to share.
